CALL FOR SCRIPTS

Arizona Women’s Theatre is proud to present its call for original scripts written by Arizona women playwrights for the 6th Annual Pandora Festival of Plays!

Submission Guidelines

There is no submission fee! Our strictest requirements are that the scripts must be original, and playwright(s) must be female(s) and residing in Arizona! Playwrights may submit up to two plays in any of the following categories: ten minute, one act, and full length plays, dealing with varying subject matters! Women playwrights of all races are strongly encouraged to apply.

Types of plays adequate for submittal:

  1. TEN-MINUTE PLAYS A script numbering 12 pages or less will fall into this category.
  2. ONE-ACTS Scripts of about 20-40 pages will fall into this category.
  3. FULL-LENGTH Any play that can constitute a complete evening of theatre will be entered in this contest. A full length play script will often have two or more acts.

Combinations in which a playwright might submit to this festival:

  1. One full-length play
  2. One one-act
  3. One ten-minute play
  4. One full-length play and One one-act
  5. One full-length play and One ten-minute play
  6. Two one-acts
  7. Two ten-minute plays
  8. One one-act and One ten-minute play

    9. Previously fully produced plays will not be accepted. Obvious first drafts, musicals and screenplays will not be acceptable. Plays that have had workshops and other readings are eligible.

    Plays will be selected through a judicial process. Chosen plays will receive a staged reading at the Scottsdale Center of the Performing Arts during in May 2012.

    To submit your play, print out and complete the Playwrights Submission Form and mail 3 unbound copies of your script(s). Each script must be accompanied by a Playwright’s Submission Form. Scripts that aren’t accompanied by a Playwrights Submission Form will be disqualified! To get a copy of the Playwrights Submission Form, click HERE.

    Please do not send your only copy, scripts will NOT be returned. Receipt of play(s) will be acknowledged via email only.

    Scripts must be formatted in the following manner:

    1. 1 x 1 margins
    2. 4 inch character and stage direction indent
    3. First page must be the Playwright’s Submission Form
    4. Second page must have ONLY the title and ‘type of’ play (comedy, drama, ect) listed below the title
    5. Third page must be a listing of characters, then the setting of the play
    6. It is preferred that you use Arial, Courier New or Times New Roman font at 12 pt font size.
